The best ways to use toughened glass in your commercial space

Monday 21st January, 2019

Toughened glass, also known as tempered or safety glass, is one of the most widely used architectural glass products around the world. Here at Peterlee Glass, we can supply toughened glass for a range of applications.

What exactly is toughened glass and why is it so popular?

Toughened glass takes its name from the fact that it is 5 times stronger than regular glass. It is useful in applications where greater strength and safety is needed, as toughened glass is up to 500x more resistant to heat and shock than ordinary glass. It can withstand severe impact without breaking, but if by chance the glass does break, patterns within the glass mean that it shatters into small, circular pieces. This differs from regular glass that breaks into large, sharp shards that are more likely to cause injury to those nearby. Toughened glass therefore reduces the risk of harm by a significant amount.

How can I use toughened glass in my commercial space?

Due to the numerous advantages of toughened glass, it can be used in your commercial space in a variety of ways. Here are our most requested:

Glass Floor                                                   Glass Balcony                               Glass Partition

Benefits of using toughened glass in a commercial space:

  • Durable – because toughened glass has been strengthened during the manufacturing process, it is less likely to break under impact. This makes it a suitable choice in settings where impact (scratches, strong winds etc) is likely.
  • Natural Light – very often, in an office setting, it can feel claustrophobic and blocked in. Installing a toughened glass partition, such as the one above, will allow natural light in and fresh air to circulate which will make the office feel more spacious
  • Aesthetically pleasing – it goes without saying that using toughened glass in your commercial space will look sleek and modern.
  • Privacy – If you want your office space to feel bigger, but are worried about keeping levels of privacy, toughened glass is a great option. Using tinted or frosted glass to surround meeting rooms or certain offices will offer privacy but still keep the airy, open environment.
  • Cost efficient – because toughened glass is stronger than regular glass, it will undoubtedly last a long time so you won’t have to worry about replacing it anytime soon. It’s also a timeless addition to a commercial space, so you wont need to frequently replace it in order to modernise your office.
